I think they give a nice little pop of color to my hutch. Once they were completely dry, I filled them up with some lavender and yarrow from my garden. I then wiped them off with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth and then gave them a light coat of Rust-Oleum chalked Clear Matte Finish to seal and protect the paint. I used a really light touch because it didn’t take much at all to back off the paint. Once the third coat was dry, I lightly distressed the jars with 220 grit sandpaper. I didn’t try to go for total coverage until the third coat. Spray chalk paint is much thinner than regular chalk paint, so I kept the paint coats light to avoid runs, especially with the first coat. It was a hot day when I painted these, so they dried pretty quickly. The paint can be easily removed with water. I sprayed three light coats on the Mason jars, allowing them to dry thoroughly between each coat. This chalk spray is perfectly suitable for temporary creative applications on smooth surfaces. Most times cleaning and dusting off the surface will do. Also, do you have to sand before chalk spray paint Chalk Paint® decorative paint adheres to almost any surface, indoors and outside, and theres rarely a need to sand or prime before painting. I make a small commission if you order through my links, but it doesn’t cost you anything more! If you do, thank you! If your spray paint is oil based, you can only use another oil paint. This post contains Amazon affiliate links for your convenience. I’ve included the Amazon shopping list for everything I used for this project below. You can find these in about any store that carries Rust-Oleum products as well as Amazon. They have a nice selection of colors if these two don’t happen to do it for you. I used Rust-Oleum Chalked Spray Paint in Linen White and Chiffon Cream.
